happiness comes in when my ex student came to the workplace for a visit and immediately whatsapp me to ask whether i am at the workplace, so that she can see me and have a short chat with me. :)

friday post

today is a special day. it commemorates my 12th year anniversary of entering the army. i got enlisted on 24 Jan 2002. 

it is also the 87th month anniversary of me and darling being together! :)

we went to wild honey at mandarin gallery to celebrate this special occasion. the food is good! and the roasted almond latte is one of the best latte i ever tasted. 

nice decor! 


the dishes that we ordered:

after dinner we went to *scape underground theatre to watch the Haiyan Charity Concert, organised by Singapore Show Choir Academy. some of my show choir kids are also performing in this concert because they got selected to join the academy. 

i feel happy for them! and proud of them too! :)

completion of 8th ICT

for this ICT, the highlight was being Range Sergeant Major for my company's live shoot. this was my first time doing, and initially i was super stressed about it, but thankfully everything turned out fine, thanks to detailed planning and the support from the trainers, as well as the support from my fellow company mates. thank you everyone!

and my detail (each detail consists of 6 pple) got marksman for the live shoot! which means all of us get 200 dollars in cash! :)

can't wait to go back to the workplace tomorrow to see my colleagues and students!

cityEscape

went to Lee Foundation Theatre @ NAFA Campus 3 to watch cityEscape, a dance production proudly presented by Dancescape Singapore. 

my favourite item was the pyjamas item. love the youthfulness, the exuberance and the mischief that was portrayed in the item. not forgetting the special guest appearance of Judy who made the item more entertaining. 

and i love the luminous yellow sneakers won by desiree. if there is a luminous pink one i would buy them without hesitation!

saturday post

today darling and i went to our shortlisted wedding banquet restaurant to take a look. 

not too bad. the ballroom is very big. can hold up to 50 tables. honestly both of us also dun want to have so many tables. 40 tables will be the maximum, and the relatives from my side will contribute 30 tables. *shivers*

protect the nation...

i am going for reservist from 13 jan to 22 jan... 

arrrghhhhhh...

no words can mention the turmoil that i am going through.

actually i kinda miss camou-ing my face. hahahaha.

she is honestly one of the most versatile and talented performers i have seen so far in the workplace.

to end this post, let me share something about teaching, from the ah boy who stays at kim tian. 

Teaching is a creative profession and not an easy one. 

A person should not be qualified to be a teacher if salary is the only motivation behind his/her teaching which involves sharing of knowledge. If one shares what he/she knows with others only when paid, he/she is more of an information broker than a teacher. And in this case a mercenary one, since we now live in an era where textbook information imparted by teachers are freely available on the Internet. 

I'm not implying that school teachers should all teach for free. School teachers should get paid not because of the information they share with students but because of how they share it - they should get paid because of the effort and precious time they spend on preparing and delivering the teaching. 

And to deliver creative and effective teaching, one has to be a genuine teacher who teaches not owing to money but due to passion, who will gladly share his/her knowledge with everyone on all occasions unless it is verboten such as during a closed-book test. 

Teachers are the lifeblood of school education and we can improve school education, on a microscopic scale, by hiring more genuine teachers that are suitable for this creative profession and encouraging information brokers in disguise to become more enthusiastic about teaching or simply firing them.

没有想象中这么糟。:)

1st post of 2014

假期终于过了。明天就开学了。

心里面没有以前的七上八下。

心里面也一点都不兴奋。

心里面就是有那么一点点的 “显”。真的希望假期可以再来多几天。

不知道现在我的同事们所体会的是不是和我一样。也不知道我的学生们的心情现在怎样。

回想起来，还是中学生的生涯最好玩。无忧无虑的上课，应付考试。开开心心的练武术，练完武术和同学们踢足球。

现在不一样了。现在是学生们的好榜样。是学生心目中的 role model. 如果我 “显”，学生们也一定很 “显”。

就因为我是 Mr Tan。我是每个人印象中的 drama king & energizer bunny.
